| Application | Protamine is an arginine rich basic peptide isolated from the maturated sperm of salmons. Alps drives this naturally originated protamine into the corresponding sulfate salt as an API. Protamine sulfate is used to neutralize the overdoesd heparin in heart surgery, hemodialysis, and extracorporeal circulation. Protamine sulfate is also utilized as an additive for insulin preparation. Since protamine sulfate co-crystalizes with insulin preparation, a middle term acting formulation is obtained, known as neutral protamine Hagedorn (NPH) insulin. |
