Application | Rutin (rutoside trihydrate: Ph. Eur. Monograph 1795) is a flavonol glycoside mainly isolated from the bud of Japanese pagoda tree (sophora japonica). Rutin serves as a precursor of troxerutin, which is widely used as a drug for the therapy of chronic venous insufficiency. Rutin or its aglycone moiety quercetin are known to possess various biological activities such as, inhibition of platelet aggregation, antithrombosis, antioxidant, inhibition of cholesterol absorption, and anti-inflammatory. Therefore, it also widely used as dietary supplements, which are expected to prevent some cardiovasular diseases. |
